Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge
Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge, Connecting Kingman AZ and Las Vegas
The Hoover Dam bypass bridge, Connecting Kingman AZ and Las Vegas has had a great impact on our community since its completion. The construction of Hoover dam began in 1931 and was completed in 1936.
It still stands tall as an engineering marvel high above the Colorado River between Arizona and Nevada. Hoover Dam attracts over 7 million visitors from around the world every year feeding vast tourism dollars into the Las Vegas Nevada and Arizona economy. The building of Hoover Dam took the knowledge and brilliance of over 200 engineers to pull-off what many deemed as almost impossible yet this magnificent structure which stand at 726 feet tall and 1244 ft long continues to wow people all over the world. Lake Mead is a scenic by product of the Hoover Dam and is a gigantic reservoir and a beautiful recreational wonderland for boating sailing, fishing and house boating and only a short distance from Kingman, AZ. Lake Mead attracts over 10 million visitors per year and covers 550 miles of shoreline and 247 square miles.
Kingman Arizona is only 95 miles from these magnificent marvels and with the addition of the Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge were only an hour or so away. Construction began in January of 2005 and after 5 .75 years it was completed on October 19th 2010. This Hoover Dam Mike O’Callaghan – Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge spans the Black Canyon and is 1900 ft long and stands 900 feet above the Colorado River. It includes the longest concrete arch in the Western Hemisphere and is also the second highest bridge in the nation and today is called “Americas Newest Wonder”. Before the completion of the latest engineering marvel it could take a long as 2.5 hours to get to Las Vegas.
It has now been close to five years since the Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge has opened, those traveling between Las Vegas Nevada and Kingman, Golden Valley Arizona have seen numerous benefit’s. Our travel time has been cut down considerably and many new businesses are looking at Mohave county to open facilities. With continued growth speculation for Mohave County over the next decade we believe that the Hover Dam Bypass bridge will be the key to continued growth and easy access to our area. I really does bridge the gap between Las Vegas NV and Kingman AZ. 🙂
